FAQ
Have questions about roofing?
Roofing can be overwhelming, and most homeowners don’t know where to start. Do you need a new roof, or will a repair be enough? How do you find a good roofing contractor? How many estimates do you need to get?
We’ve answered some of the most commonly asked questions about roof repair and replacement below. We hope that, by the time you get to the bottom of this page, you’ll feel confident in reaching out to Utica Roof Pros to schedule a free estimate!
What roofing services do you offer?
We specialize in residential roof repair and replacement in the Utica, Rome, and Herkimer, NY area. We install asphalt shingles on pitched roofs and EPDM or rolled roofing on flat roofs.
Our services include skylight repair and replacement, emergency roof leak repair, chimney flashing repair, soffit and fascia, attic insulation, and more. To learn more about our services, click here.
What types of shingles do you install?
We install architectural asphalt shingles from major shingle manufacturers like Owens Corning, IKO, and GAF. We are an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, which means we have met strict requirements for professionalism and reliability.
We do not install standing seam metal, or slate or cedar shake shingles.
How do I know if I need a new roof?
Most older roofs have a lifespan of 15-25 years, depending on a variety of factors including shingle and installation quality, location, ventilation, and wind and weather damage. Some warning signs of a bad roof are:
- Missing shingles
- Broken or damaged shingles
- Signs of leaks on your ceiling
- Loss of asphalt granulation
If you notice any of these signs, or if your roof is older than 15 years old, we recommend that you call us to schedule a free estimate. After a full roof and attic inspection, our estimator will recommend either a repair or replacement. We’ll never recommend a full roof replacement unless you need it.
How much does a new roof cost?
The price of a new roof depends on a variety of factors, including the size of your roof, the materials, and the warranty you select.
We recommend that you schedule a free roof inspection and estimate. Our estimator will work with you to determine the exact price, based on their measurement and your choice of roofing materials.
Do you work with homeowner's insurance claims?
Yes. If your roof has sustained wind or weather damage, you are likely able to file a claim under your homeowner’s insurance policy. We have a great track record of helping homeowners in the Utica area navigate the complex process of roof insurance claims.
Do you warranty your work?
Yes. We provide 5, 10, or 15 year workmanship warranty on every new roof. Our repairs come with a 1-5 year workmanship warranty on the repair area.
What is the difference between a workmanship warranty and a manufacturer's warranty?
A workmanship warranty covers any issues or leaks that occur as a result of faulty installation. A manufacturer’s warranty simply covers defective material or shingles.
Unlike many Utica area contractors, we offer a workmanship warranty that covers any issues resulting from faulty installation, on top of any manufacturer’s warranties.
How do I schedule a free roofing estimate?
Call us at 315-355-6025 or fill out your contact information at the bottom of this page. We’ll get back to you as quickly as possible!
How many estimates should I get?
We recommend that you get three roofing estimates. Pay close attention to each roofing contractor’s demeanor, knowledgeability, and presentation. Ask yourself some questions. How through and professional is the estimator? Are they helpful and willing to answer your questions? How detailed is their estimate?
We recommend that you compare your roofing proposals and your experience with each roofing estimator on the basis of price, quality, and professionalism. Keep in mind, if a roofing contractor is hard to reach now, he will be much harder to reach in the future in the case of a warranty issue.
Why shouldn't I go with the cheapest roofing contractor?
We never recommend going with the cheapest contractor – a low estimate is often too good to be true. The contractor is most likely not insured, and will almost certainly cut corners with labor and materials. Almost always, they’ll attempt to add a large up-charge at the end of the project. Often, they’re a jack-of-all-trades handyman who will over-promise and under-deliver.
How do I know you're a good contractor?
Our commitment to quality and exceptional customer service puts us in a league above the rest. But don’t just take our word for it – read our reviews. We have a 5-star rating on Google and Thumbtack, and a 4.93-star rating on HomeAdvisor. Our ratings are substantially higher than the Utica area’s top competitor, who has a Google rating of just 2.8 stars!
Who are your biggest competitors?
Some of our competitors are Padula Roofing, Northeastern Roofing, and Cobblestone Construction.
If I choose Utica Roof Pros, how long will it be before you complete the work?
Depending on the type of your project, our turnaround time generally ranges between 1-4 weeks for roof replacement, and 1-3 weeks for roof repairs. Of course, this depends on factors such as the time of year and weather conditions.
How long does a roof replacement take?
We complete 99% of our roof replacement projects in one day. If your roof replacement project is large, complex, or requires additional repair work, your project may take 2-3 days, depending on its scope.
What can I expect on installation day?
Our foreman and crews generally arrive between 7 and 8AM. Our crews will use large tarps to protect your home and landscaping from debris – old shingles, nails, and underlayment. Once the old roofing material is removed, we will check the sheathing, or decking, for damaged or rotten areas. We will replace any damaged plywood/decking as agreed in the proposal, as a new roof can’t be installed on damaged decking. New drip edge, ice and water barrier, and synthetic underlayment are installed, after which the new architectural shingles are installed. All trash is placed into a dumpster and removed.
